Lake June

This lake is near Sebring and Lake Placid Florida. Fishing in this lake is very good in the spring and summer months offering shallow and deep cover.

Location and Method:

1- Small lake via Canal Access- A small lake NE of Lake June can be reached via a canal if the water is up. This is a great spot for springtime lunkers. The SE corner of this lake has a small canal system often filled with bass beds in the spring. Use your typical bedding fish lures here. The entrance to this canal system is also good with lots of pads and scattered Kissimmee grass. Pitch the grass with a 1/4 oz junebug Zoom trickworm.

2- Grass line near Deep Water- Major point in Lake June is good in spring and summer. Cast a worm here in Junebug or redshad with 1/8 to 1/4 oz weight. This point is near lots of docks.

3- Kissimmee Grass Flat- This flat is prime spawning grounds. Some areas of this flat was being protected by the state to protect the spawn, but some of it is still accessible. Cast/pitch light 1/8 oz weighted junebug/redshad worms targetting the thicker clumps and open pockets.

4- Canal System- Canal system extending off cove is good spring haunt for spawning bass. Many canals and water reasonably clear to spots those beds. Use your favorite sight fishing lures in here.

5- Point in NE Cove- The point out from the NE cove is a geat schooling fish spot in the summer. Work it with a 1/4 oz rattletrap, #7 shadrap and 1/4 oz Texas rigged worm. The point extends into the lake as your depthfinder will show you. Work it throughly.

6- NW Cove- This cove has a lot of pads and some scattered grass. Pitch/cast along the grass and pad mix in the spring. Beds are often found here.

7-Deep water 12-15 ft- Deep water often with submerged grass on bottom. Carolina rig with flurocarbon line is recommended. Lake June is relatively clear, and the flurocarbon line is often the ticket to success. Use your favorite worm on the rig.

8- Deep water 15-20 ft- The fish in this area are often schooling on top in the summer. I like using Zoom flukes and #9 shadraps for them. Flurocarbon or lighter line can be used because of minimal cover.

9- South Canal system- Southern canal system holds great spawning fish in the spring. I like using the gitzits (tube lures) here in the spring with a split shot.
